Friend or Foe...

So I promised in my previous post that I would write more about the whole idea of there being robots in Japan, and I'm keeping my promise.

This subject really concerns me and I've been wanting to write about it for a while now, to fully express my thoughts on it, and hopefully get some feedback and commentary on it as well.

So if you're asking yourself why I'm concerned on this subject, there are a number of reasons why it all concerns me. For starters, and this may seem completely off-subject at first, but one of my favorite movies of all time is "I-Robot". This movie shows what the future would be like if human-like robots were made a part of our daily lives. Now, this movie specializes on robots taking over the world, and quite honestly, I think that is possible.

Alright, for those of you who don't think that robots will take over the world and eventually kill us all, (though that's not what I meant) I believe robots will, in a way, take over the world. Maybe some of these videos will help show what I mean and how far they've already gotten.

This video shows how they will eventually take over our means of entertainment:
Dancing Robots

This one is of a robotic teacher:
Robot Teacher

As for this next one, it shows quite a few roles that robots are partaking in Japan, and how other countries are trying to compete in robot technology:
Robot Magic

If you don't understand English and are very interested in that last video, here it is in Spanish:
En Espa~ol

Now... on to the reason why I think this is all wrong. As you were able to see in the videos, mainly in that last one, we see that robots are taking roles that humans had. In that last video, actually, we see someone saying "This robotic receptionist works very hard, and does not complain" <<<< That right there is exactly what I'm getting at. Eventually companies and people all around the world will want to use robots to fill in what people used to do. Why? No salaries to pay, no complaints from the robots, no danger for human lives, etc.

But... this all comes at a price. In our society, we're already seeing an increasing rate of unemployment for people all over the world... if robots begin to take positions that people have at this moment, there will be even more. Society would become even more unbalanced, and things would get chaotic. Not to mention all of the possibilities of robots fighting wars between countries.

Overall, I think the creation of robots for all these roles and to increase the development of them to this extent is too much. I'd like to hear what other people think though. So feel free to comment. :D

  1. I think that if a real robot war occured it would be quite funny....because you'd have humans giving the robots guns and the robots would just move around and shoot everything until they run out of bullets or get shot or both that is taking in consideration that the wars aren't fought near civil areas.
